My heart ached when I read the article regarding South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford and his secret love affair.
After reading an article like that, how can anyone believe Monogamy is the only way for humans?
The Article:

The man fell in love. Is that a crime?
He met his soul mate, an experience that most of us may never obtain.
Yet, this man's career is over, along with his affair, and according to society the proper action is for him to "force" himself to fall back in love with his wife and reconcile a marriage that has long been over.
According to society this man must forget the precious love he felt for this other woman, and shove it away like it is something that is wrong or criminal. Then he must continue living in a marriage that lost its passion years ago. Why?
Because the bible says so?
Because marriage is so valuable, as we have witnessed so much in L.A. where the divorce rate reaches beyond 50%?
Because people are only allowed to love one human being for their entire lives? Despite the fact that we are capable of making wonderful connections wherever we go?
I encourage people to think outside of what we have been taught and conditioned to think.
A man's life is ruined, and he had to sacrifice the most previous feeling of all: LOVE! All this because of some rules set not in stone, but in our Minds. Rules that state human beings should grow up, get married, have kids, and grow old with one person.
In today's world, where connections are unlimited and our horizons have no barriers, we should be opening our minds to the idea that our hearts can love many.
I feel pity for the human who feels they can only love one person. Is your heart really that small?
I pity those who have had to sacrifice love and passion for a set of rules carried down from an ancient world.
I pity men and women like Governor Mark Sanford. People who can leave their love for the public. People who have chosen to succumb to the masses, rather than live their own magical life.
People who fail to think, even for just a minute, that their life can be More.

I respectfully disagree. If a person wants to follow polyamory or polygamy, that's fine. But ALL parties involved should be 100% aware, and 100% for it. It's not the act of loving more than one person that is wrong in this situation, it's the complete lack of respect he had for his wife. She is probably humiliated. All the trust is gone, she probably feels unattractive and like something is really wrong with her.
ReplyDeleteMonogamy is not for everyone, this is true. But people who do not wish to be monogamous should not be involved with people who are. It's hurtful.
I completely agree that lies are wrong and the situation should have been handled differently. My main point was expressing my irritation towards monogamy and how society forces those ideals upon us, which creates situations like this every day.
ReplyDeleteThe man is a coward, that is no doubt. His wife should not move forward with reconciling the marriage and she should leave him for someone who respects her.
